What I do every day...

When thinking about my job, the first word that strikes me is ‘diverse’. The great thing about having a job with such diversity is that I don’t get bored easily. There is always something new and interesting for me to sink my teeth into.

So, here goes…

I represent the Pretoria leg of Rode & Associates and as the marketing manager, I am responsible for all Rode’s marketing (publications, events and sponsorships) and I’m in charge of looking after the advertisers who advertise in the Rode’s Report. Obviously, I am constantly on the prowl for new advertisers who can add value to our publication. Elizma Hawksley and I are jointly responsible for organising the annual Rode conferences and breakfast events and deal with the media when necessary (media releases, invites etc.). I see to it that our website is up to date and try to ensure that it stays as user-friendly as possible. I am responsible for converting the Rode’s Report into HTML format for the online version (available on CD only) and for compiling some information regarding new and existing shopping centres that we use in the Rode’s Retail Report. I am responsible for set-up and distribution of our free monthly Rode Review and I also ensure that our e-database is kept updated at all times. Other than that I give technical assistance when and where needed.

About me…

My likes: I’m passionate about my husband and two daughters – I adore them. I love reading and I enjoy curling up on the couch to watch a nice DVD, when I actually get the time in between doing homework with my 7-year old and looking after and entertaining my very cute, VERY demanding toddler. I literally have my hands full!! Last but not least, there is nothing better than spending a quiet evening at home with my family and good friends.

My dislikes: I absolutely abhor traffic – especially while travelling between Pretoria & Jo’burg. Don’t even get me started on travelling/being stuck in traffic while it’s pouring with rain or while they are working on the roads (like now!!). Most people think Capetonians are laid-back, but since moving to Gauteng it has become clear to me that this is definitely not the case – most Capetonians just don’t get stuck in traffic for 2 to 3 hours every day!
